Non-Recurring Rides
October 10 (Sat) 8:30 AM C 66 NCR Trail (Monkton, MD)
2nd Annual NCR Ride
On Saturday, October 10, I will lead the 2nd Annual NCR Ride. For those of you who are not familiar with this ride, I will meet the riders at Monkton, MD, at the NCR Trail [aka Northern Central Railroad Trail] Headquarters, and we will travel the NCR Trail, a gravel trail which runs from Hunt Valley, near Towson, all the way to York, PA. The round trip distance for this ride last year was about 66 miles. The trail is basically smooth and rut-free, but it is gravel, and one would be advised to bring along a mountain bike or hybrid for this one. Bring money for lunch, too, in York. We will meet in Monkton at 8:30 AM, and leave ASAP. Riders should park just before the bottom of the hill on a cul-de-sac side road, as parking at the trail is very limited. It is a very short ride to the trail.
October 18 (Sun) 9:00 AM CC 48 Whittier Elementary School
Approximately a Straight Shot to Emmitsburg
This is a traditional Frederick Pedalers ride. The ride avoids big hills and covers typical Frederick County terrain. There is a rest stop in Emmitsburg at roughly the halfway point. You can have a full lunch at Subway or McDonalds or just a snack standing outside the Exxon station. The cue sheet can be found here
October 24 (Sat) 9:30 AM B/CC/C 50 South Street Park, McSherrystown, PA
Parallel Universe Ride II
This is a “double-jointed” ride; we’ll be joined by our hosts, the Hanover Cyclers, and the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia. The route is not yet determined, but will likely go to the Gettysburg Battlefield area. For more information, contact Bill Smith, (smith.william0214@gmail.com)
October 25 (Sun) 8:30 AM C 60+ Woodsboro Community Park
Woodsboro-Cascade Loop
This ride covers some of the finest 60+ miles that Frederick County has to offer. Beginning at the Woodsboro Community Park, we will enjoy the peace and history of Bennie Duncan Road, the three covered bridges near Thurmont and we will climb the idyllic Catoctin Hollow Road [so lube up your granny gears], ending up at the summit of Catoctin Mountain. We will take a very slow pace to make sure that all who begin this climb will arrive up at the top, safe and sound. Then, we get to enjoy that long, breathtaking 8-mile long downhill of MD-550 into Thurmont. We will enjoy the grandeur of the historic Legore Bridge. The ride ends with a flat winding down section which affords spacious panoramic views of the mountains which one can only enjoy here in Frederick County. Terrain: From mountainous, to hilly, to flat.
Ocotber 31 (Sat) 9:30 AM CC 45 Monocacy Middle School
Less Than a Half Century
The scheduled ride will start from Monocacy Middle School parking lot and return after touring northern Frederick County. The ride will mostly consist of gentle rolling terrain with scenic views and plenty of socializing. Rest stop is scheduled for Sheetz in Thurmont but the group may stop prior if needed. No rider will be left behind, as this is a social ride at gentle CC pace. The ride leader will provide cell number on CUE sheet in case of emergency.
