Non-Recurring Rides
Oct 4 (Sat) 8:30 am C 70 Park Headquarters, Monkton, MD
NCR Trail Ride
Bring a mountain bike or hybrid, as this is a gravel trail. Also, bring money
for food along the way. Water is limited, so be prepared. We will meet at the Ranger
Station/Park HQ in Monkton, MD, at 8:30 AM. Parking is very limited, so park on
the very wide shoulder of MD-138/Monkton Rd, just west of the river bridge [just
before you get to the bridge], and ride down to the trail and HQ building.
Oct 11 (Sat) 8:00 am A 50
Brunswick MARC Train Station
Gratuitous Hills
This ride will go out of it's way to find the good hard climbs and a few smaller
ones in-between in Southwestern Frederick County with a little excursion into Washington
County. Included are Gapland Rd. and the return trip up Reno Monument Rd. all the way up
to Lamb's Knoll with Teen Barnes Rd. thrown in just for fun. If you don't like hills,
this is not the ride for you. At least as much climbing as the Catoctin Climber. We will
wait up at the top of each "summit" to regroup.
Oct 11 (Sat) 10:30 am D 7/13
Lewistown Elementary School
Pick Your Distance
This ride is for beginners and those who like a short, easy ride. We'll
start at Lewistown Elementary School and head north on some of the quietest
and least hilly roads that Frederick County offers. We will loop back and
arrive at the school after seven miles. Those who wish can call it quits
there. The ride will continue south and loop around to see the Utica Covered
Bridge before arriving at the school for a thirteen-mile ride.
Oct 12 (Sun) 9:25 am B 60-65
Thurmont Food Lion (Roar!)
Parallel Universe Ride
We will span the Mason-Dixon line when we do a joint ride the Hanover
Cycling Club. We start in Thurmont, they start in PA and we meet at Taneytown
Sheetz at 11 am. We’ll ride west toward Gettysburg from there; split up and
head back to our respective starting points.
Oct 18 (Sat) 8:30 am C/C+ 62
Woodsboro Community Park
Woodsboro - Cascade Loop
This ride has it all. This ride covers some of the finest 60+ miles that Frederick
County has to offer. Beginning at the Woodsboro Community Park, we will enjoy the peace
and history of Bennie Duncan Road, the three covered bridges near Thurmont [as well as
the grandeur of the historic Legore Bridge], and we will climb the idyllic Catoctin
Hollow Road [so lube up your granny gears], ending up at the summit of Catoctin
Mountain. We will take a very slow pace to make sure that all who begin this
climb, arrive up at the top, safe and sound. We then get to enjoy that long,
breathtaking 8-mile long downhill of MD-550 into Thurmont. The ride ends with
a flat winding down section which affords spacious panoramic views of the mountains
which one can only enjoy here in Frederick County.
Oct 18 (Sat) 9:00 am C- 30+
Utica District Park
Three Covered Bridges
For a more relaxed alternative to the Woodsboro - Cascade Loop join Jim
and Peggy for a solid 'C' pace ride. Route is TBD but we will have cue
sheets for an easy touring pace of 10-13 mph with rest stops as needed and
frequent regrouping as no one will be dropped (except maybe the leaders :-)
Oct 25 (Sat) 9:00 am C 33
Harry Grove Stadium
Going South
Admiral Nelson requests the pleasure of your company on his first ride-leading
adventure south of Frederick. Park in the upper (northern) lot of Harry Grove
Stadium adjacent to Stadium Drive. The ride is 33 miles, with shorter options
of 30, 24 or 19.
