We'll try some new routes along with the old favorites on this mid-week spin where new riders are always welcome. This is a social ride and no one will be left behind. If needed we will regroup periodically or split into two groups when feasible. Usually no go in rain and ride leader duties may alternate through the season so some weeks may be impromptu.

Basic Bicycling Classes

The dates are May 1, 8, 15 and 22 and will begin at about 6:15 pm and end about 8 pm.

Each session will consist of approximately an hour of class instruction followed by a road ride to try out your newly learned skills. These classes are intended for anyone who would like to learn more about their bicycle and how to safely operate it on the road.

Registration is required.

Please check here for more information including the registration form, or send an email to clubmail@frederickpedalers.org if you have additional questions.

Non-Recurring Rides

May 4 (Sun) 8:45 am C+ 40+ Woodsboro Community Park
The Recovery Ride

I am one of a number of us in the FPBC who have had their cycling interrupted by either some surgical/medical procedure, or a serious injury. Since many of us are in various forms of being back in the saddle again, I thought it might be nice if we all got together to celebrate our recoveries with a friendly ride through some fun and beautiful terrain, not too difficult so that those of us [myself included] who are just recently back to cycling can truly enjoy themselves, as well as the comradery of friends who love cycling. So, I am going to lead a Recovery Ride.

This ride to start at the Woodsboro Community Park, and will begin by going up MD-550, down Bennie Duncan Rd, and through Walkersville, and then through the 3 covered bridges [via Thurmont]. And we will also enjoy the LeGore stone bridge. This ride will be gently flowing over gradual semi-flat terrain, with a hill or two to give us a challenge. And we should all enjoy gliding southbound on MD-194 into Woodsboro at the finish. Everyone is invited. I hope to see many of you at the ride.

May 16 (Fri) 7:15 am All 2 Frederick City Hall
Bike to Work Day

Join us for an easy and short ride from City Hall to the BTWD Pit Stop at the downtown MARC station. Government and vendor exhibits will be out at the Pit Stop along with food and drink to fuel you on your way to work.

May 17 (Sat) 6:00 am B+ 181 Monocacy Middle School
Big Honkin' Ride - 181 Miles of Joy

We have route lengths of 181, 114, 95, 69, and 43. The 181 goes to Thurmont, Fairfield, Shippensburg, Newville, Bloserville, Mt. Holly Springs, East Berlin, New Oxford, Bonneauville, Thurmont and home. All rides are very hilly. Numerous rest stops are available. Due to the length of this ride, we will be pushing along at a pace of about 15 mph overall (climbs included). Contact the leader if you are interested in any of these rides. Lights are recommended for the 181-miler. Maps and cue sheets will be provided.

May 17 (Sat) 10:30 am D 7/13 Lewistown Elementary School
Pick Your Distance

This ride is for beginners and those who like a short, easy ride. We'll start at Lewistown Elementary School and head north on some of the quietest and least hilly roads that Frederick County offers. We will loop back and arrive at the school after seven miles. Those who wish to can call it quits there. The ride will continue south and loop around to see the Utica Covered Bridge before arriving at the school for a thirteen-mile ride.

May 21 (Wed) 6:45 pm All 10 Thomas Johnson Middle School
Ride of Silence

** This ride replaces the regular Wednesday Night Ride for May 21 **

Join us as we raise cycling awareness during Bike Safety Month and honor those cyclists who have been injured or killed on our nation's roads. This ride will proceed in silent memorial at no more than 12 mph through the streets of downtown Frederick obeying all laws and traffic controls to demonstrate cyclists intent to safely share the road with other vehicles.

Please arrive and be ready for pre-ride instructions at 6:45 PM as we will try to depart promptly at 7:00 PM.

See http://www.rideofsilence.org for more information about this international event.

May 25 (Sun) 9:15 am B-/C+ 65 Silo Hill Parkway
Recovery Metric

Join Vicki and Bill for a repeat of last September's metric century (when neither of us could ride). First stop will be a short one for drinks in McSherrystown at 27 miles. Longer sit-down stop in Littlestown at Dutterer's Restaurant or Subway at 35 miles. Last stop in Taneytown Sheetz at mile 54. A couple of hills, but we'll be taking it gently. Leaders will be on a tandem, so downhills and flats will be a bit quicker, but we'll wait at turns to regroup.

Please note: Wheel Base and Bicycle Escape rides are not "official" Frederick Pedalers rides and are listed as a courtesy
