This is a social ride and no one will be left behind. If needed we will regroup periodically or split into two groups when feasible. Usually no go in rain and ride leader duties may alternate through the season so some weeks may be impromptu.

The Wednesday Escape

Weekend Rides

Aug 4 (Sat) 9:50 am B-/C+ 36 Elmer Wolf Elementary School
CornQuest - The Longer Ride

We'll travel from Union Bridge to the Union Mills Homestead to partake in the annual Union Mills Corn Roast. Your meal ticket (approx 11 dollars) will buy a serving of fried chicken, applesauce, sliced tomatoes, roll and butter, iced tea or lemonade and all the roasted corn that you can eat!

The link to the website is: http://www.unionmills.org/2007_events/2007_corn_roast.htm

NOTE: This is a hilly ride - there is about 2,500 feet of climbing on this ride. Bring extra water - we guarantee that you will need it. Leaders will be riding slowly on their tandem (at least when climbing).

Aug 4 (Sat) 10:30 am C 14 St. Mathews UCC Church
CornQuest - The Shorter Ride

See B-/C+ ride description above.

NOTE: This is a very hilly ride - there is about 1,100 feet of climbing in only 14 miles. Bring extra water - we guarantee that you will need it.

Aug 5 (Sun) 8:45 am C+ 63 Central Elementary School
Chesapeake Bay Ride

Come on down to Anne Arundel County for a refreshingly non-challenging metric century ride along the Chesapeake Bay, through tobacco and horse country, and enjoy some breathtakingly beautiful terrain, from deep forests, to lush tobacco and corn fields, to panoramic views of the Chesapeake Bay, and historic farms and estates. This ride will travel at about a C+ pace, and will be done group style, leaving no one behind. The plan is for lunch in Chesapeake Beach, MD, which is in Calvert County. For those who are interested, an historic railroad museum is there, and should be of interest to any who would like to visit.

Aug 12 (Sun) 9:00 am D 19 Lewistown Elementary School
Loopy For Lewistown

We'll meander along the quiet country roads surrounding Lewistown. It's not flat, but there are no long hills. One planned rest stop approximately half-way through the ride, and we'll stop as desired by the group. We will ride as a group and no one will be left behind. No go in heavy sap.

Aug 19 (Sun) 9:00 am C 25 Culler Lake
Lake to Park

We'll leave town and head out Opossumtown Pike to some country roads, crossing one covered bridge. We'll stop at Utica Park. Pack a light snack. There are plenty of hills, but nothing you can't handle. We'll ride as a group. No one left behind.

Aug 25 (Sat) 9:00 am C 28 Whittier Elementary School
A Quick Tour of Mountaindale

Please join us for a great bike ride on a muggy summer day in August. This is an easy C pace ride over rolling terrain and the group will get to enjoy the wonderful scenery of northern Frederick County. We will ride as a group and no one will be left behind. No go if thunderstorms, moderate rain or temperature above 100 degrees.

Aug 25 & 26 (Sat & Sun) The Bicycle Escape
A Weekend With Independent Fabrication

The Bicycle Escape will be hosting their 2nd Annual "A Weekend with Independent Fabrication" August 25 – 26, 2007. The shop will kick off this event on Saturday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm with IF bike demo rides. Attendees will have an opportunity to see and test ride the two-time "best dream bike," the carbon fiber/titanium XS. Also available will be a 953 stainless steel road bike and an IF that debuted at the 2007 North American Handmade Bicycle Show. Scheduled for Saturday evening at 7:00 pm is a wine and cheese event with the president of Independent Fabrication, Matt Bracken. Matt will give a presentation on the science of bicycle fitting and custom frame production.

On Sunday, August 26th at 10:00am there will be a road ride with Mr. Bracken. Riders should bring their own bike but may have the opportunity to ride an IF demo bike if they so choose.
