Ride Reports May 2006

Two Covered Bridges
by Laura Chaffiotte

John Fauerby, Lynne Rosenbusch, Jeff Johnson and Bill Smith joined ride leader, Laura Chaffiotte bright and early (especially early due to daylight savings time) at Monocacy Middle School. We rode north for awhile and traveled over our first covered bridge. Bill headed back to Frederick at Old Frederick Road. Shortly after that we were chased by a tenacious little dog for several miles. Finally he gave up on us and chased a car going in the opposite direction. We arrived at and road over the second covered bridge on Roddy Road. After several more miles we stopped at the truck stop in Thurmont for refreshments and ORRF (on road restroom facility as per John F). Finally, we headed back to Frederick for a total of 41 miles.

Loopy for Lewistown
by Brian King

On a cloudy morning, the only soul brave enough to show for the first Loopy ride of 2006 was Mike Precario. He joined ride leaders Brian and Alice King as we set out in search of the sun. Alice turned back as the temps were a bit chilly for her low-cadence riding style. Mike and Brian continued on and met Bill Smith out on Old Frederick Road, still fresh on his way back to town from PA. Shortly after continuing on, the rain started. Not a heavy rain mind you, but heavy enough to wish you had those little mini-wiper blades for your eyeglasses that you see on late night TV. Since neither Mike nor Brian had a pair of those handy, we cut the ride short and got back to Lewistown after a damp 12 miles. May will be better I promise !
