Ride Reports April 2006
Annual Birthday Ride
by Spry Bill Smith
This year, Laura Chaffiotte, John Johnson, Bernie Sellers, Paul Simkins,
and Steve Walter joined Bill on another frosty ride up to Gettysburg for
lunch. At ride start the temperature was about 33 degrees, and at ride's
end it was only 31. Fortunately, the sun was strong for most of the ride,
which kept us from freezing our giblets. We did 51 miles, which was a
little more in miles than the leader now has in years.
Wednesday Night Lights & Pizza Finale
by Bill 'Mushroom & Onion' Smith
This last month of riding had us accompanied by Bill Preston, Chris Borkman,
Bernie Sellers, John Gantnier, Henrik Olsen and Bill Smith. The warm March
weather did not extend into Wednesday nights, but it did not matter as we did
enough hill work to keep warm. The prospect of warm pizza at Luke’s after
the ride is always a factor as well!
Now that the Lights and Pizza rides are over for the season, it is time that
we (the Awards Committee of the Frederick Pedalers) now give out our two most
prestigious awards: The Golden Icicle and the Golden Tube for 2006. (Drum roll
please). And the Shaft of Gold goes to: Bernie Sellers and John Gantnier
(applause). It is with tremendous appreciation and amazement that we recognize
their frosty achievements of 2005-2006. Through nights of chill and cold,
these two ice-laden fellows rode all Winter, on Mondays and Wednesdays. In
addition, John Gantnier has earned his first Golden Tube Award for the first
flat of the night riding season. (Accepting the awards will be Bill Preston,
of course).
