Ride Reports April 2005
OK, so March was kind of lean but watch this space next month as all kind of rides
are on the books for April 2005!
Lights, Pizza and Train Spotting
Led by Bill Smith
The hope of an early Spring was certainly dashed by Mother Nature this year, as
we rode in temperatures that were more appropriate for January. Brave cyclists
this month were Chris Borkman, John Gantnier, Bill Pakenas, Bernie Sellers, Bill
Preston, Buzz Chew and Bill Smith. We spent one night exploring the Middletown
valley, another doing our standard route backwards (we did not like it) and another
night exploring the areas just north of Urbana. Now that Daylight Wasting Time has
ended we look forward to packing away our lights for the Summer and joining the
crowd out at Glade Elementary soon.
And it is, with pleasure, that the Awards Committee of the Frederick Pedalers now
gives out its most prestigious award: The Golden Icicle for 2005. (Drum roll please).
And the "shaft of gold" goes to: Bernie Sellers and John Gantnier (applause). It is
with tremendous appreciation and amazement that we recognize their frosty achievements
of 2004-2005. When you see them out on the road, please congratulate them. They may
be discerned from the rest of us by the fact that they’ll still have icicles on their
chins. This is also the first time that the “shaft of gold” has been awarded to more
than one recipient.
