Ride Reports January/February 2005
Washington County Exploring
Led by Dave Whitaker
From an e-mail report: "Guess what? Chris Borkman came out for my ride out of
Myersville yesterday. I was really happy to see him. We rode at a moderate pace
and he was doing well. I sensed at the end of the ride that his arm may have
been feeling it at that point, but I was impressed that he was out there and riding strong!"
Lights, Pizza and Train Spotting
Led by Bill Smith
Riders these past two months were Bill Preston, Chris Borkman, John Gantnier, Bill Pakenas,
Bernie Sellers, Kim Manion, Henrik Olsen, Neal Becker and Bill Smith. As Christmas
approached we took to exploring Middletown, Jefferson, Doubs and Adamstown in search of
the best lighting displays. The best we viewed were on Butterfly Lane and Holter Rd. We
kept to the hills to stay warm. On December 15th the entire ride was below freezing; on December 22nd
we passed by a 'controlled burn' of a house in Doubs. The great amount of heat emitted
made us quite toasty for twenty seconds (but only the right-half of the cycling engines).
Bagel Rides IX and X
Led by Steve and Mary Walter
We had good weather for the two Bagel Rides although December was actually warmer than
November. The November ride went south along Park Mills down to Rt. 28 and looped
around to Ballenger Creek and back up, for a total of about 35 miles. For November
John Fauerby and Lynne Rosenbusch joined Mary and me on the ride. December we went
north to Thurmont and looped around to include Legore Bridge. This ride totaled 40
miles, with Vicki Crum, Mary and me.
