Bike to Work Day on Friday May 18th:http://www.waba.org/events/btwd As in past years, the club plans to ride from Frederick City Hall to the MARC Station Pit Stop. Watch this space and the May Ride Schedule for details. Utica District Park Grand Opening A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for Thursday April 26th at 2:00 PM to officially open the new Utica District Park. The club will lead a short ride to the event starting at Walkersville Heritage Farm Park located on Devilbiss Bridge Road across from Glade Elementary School. We will plan to depart shortly after 1:30 PM to arrive at the park a few minutes before the ceremony begins. Depending on weather and the group's desire, we may extend the trip back to ride a few extra miles. The club has already used park facilities several times, and the county has allowed us to use the picnic pavillion at no charge for our Basic Bicyclist Classes so we would like to show our support by having some members attend the ceremony. Please Contact Us if you would like more information about this event or the club ride that day. You can see more info on the park here: http://www.co.frederick.md.us/index.asp?NID=1963 Frederick County Roads Board Looking For Members The Frederick County Roads Board is looking for new members who can provide advice and recommendations to the Department of Highways and Transportation and the Board of County Commissioners. Joining this group would be a great way to provide input on road projects in the county and ensure they are hearing the views of cyclists. If you are interested, take a look at the Public Notice SRAM Brake Component Recall Some SRAM road brake calipers have been recalled. Every year there is an international film festival in Banff, British Columbia where films about mountain culture are screened and celebrated. After the official festival, the winners and 'best of the fest' go on a world tour to over 25 countries and six continents. Emmitsburg and Mount St. Mary’s University are lucky enough to be one of the stops this year. Of special interest is a film about a couple's six month 8000km bike trip across Asia. I can hear Ann & Fred salivating already . . .Check here for more info: http://www.chestnutmtnproductions.com/banff/emmitsburgfilms.htm Frederick Gazette Article on Bike Paths Our club's esteemed statesman Bill Smith was quoted in an April 19th Gazette article about Frederick City bike paths:http://www.gazette.net/stories/041907/frednew225049_32326.shtml This story shall be forever noteworthy for Bill's use of the term 'unfettered' when referring to cyclist's access to public roadways.
