Club Dinner

The Club's Annual Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at the Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont. Members and non-members are welcome at this non-cycling social event where we each pay our own bill. You should have notified Treasurer Bob Dollar by now at clubmail@frederickpedalers.org if you plan to attend the banquet - if you really want to go and have not called him, you might ring him up (just in case there were any cancellations).

Following are directions to the Cozy Restaurant:

From Frederick (from the south), take US15 north. Exit onto the third occurrence of MD806 (you'll see Wendy's and the Super 8 on the hill at your left as you approach the exit). Follow the exit ramp down to the traffic light (MD806) and turn left (McDonald’s is at this intersection). Proceed about 0.1 miles—just before you reach Moser Road, you'll see the restaurant on your left. The parking lot entrance will be on your left.

Mr. Munns Goes to Florida

As you read this, Administrative Vice President John Munns is getting ready to head off to Florida. Apparently, there is a law on the books that says "upon full retirement, one must relocate to the state of Florida".

We couldn't tell you exactly when John appeared on the scene of the Frederick Pedalers, only that it seems as if he's always been here. We think it might have been sometime in the early 1990s.

Before moving to Frederick, John lived in Greenbelt and was a regular (and a leader) on some of Potomac Pedalers Midweek Madcap rides. Club President Bill Smith was on those rides back in the 80s as well, but does not remember John (nor much of the 80s).

In addition to leading numerous rides (especially Straight Shot to Emmitsburg & Union Bridge rides), serving as Secretary and Admin Vice President, John got the club's original website going back in the late 90s and made it into one of the better functioning ones in our area. John also hosted the club meetings in his house, as well as friendly gatherings back then where we talked bicycling and sampled various beverages from his Beer of The Month Club. John is also the only club member to flee to Germany in the 90's to avoid being voted in as president.

Rather than embarrass John even more, who likes to keep a quiet, low profile, we’ll simply state that this club has been made much better by his contributions and that we are all lucky to have known and cycled with him.

I am sure that John will keep in contact with us—probably by sending pictures of himself riding in seventy-degree sunshine while we shovel snow and ride our trainers.

Best wishes, John and enjoy your retirement. Come up for a frosty ride sometime!
