2006 Frederick Pedalers Club Century

We’re going to do something a little different this year for the club century (100 miles) and metric century (63 miles) rides. The century route will begin in Thurmont (Food Lion) as it did last year however the metric is going to begin in Taneytown and follow the century route exactly from that point. This offers the possibility of the metric century riders riding their entire ride with some of the folks doing the century, and allows the metric riders the availability of the lunch stop restaurant.

The century route is very similar to last year with perhaps a minor change or two. We'll begin in Thurmont, go out to Taneytown (where we join the metric riders), then go to Littlestown (PA), hit the turnaround point in Abbottstown (PA) where we have the choice of eating at Rigo's Diner or the Rutters Farm Store, then back to Taneytown. At this point the metric riders are finished; the century riders continue back to Thurmont.

You’ll be riding over rolling terrain for the most part. There are some flatter areas, as well as some hillier spots, too. There are many more ups and downs than the Seagull Century but flatter than the CVCC and Civil War centuries.

We’ll provide you with cue sheets and maps; you’re on your own for food but there are food stores every 20-30 miles. (This is why our century is free). The century ride of 101 miles has shortcuts of 70 and 39 miles. The metric ride of 63 miles has a single shortcut of 32 miles.

If you are riding the century, plan on leaving the Thurmont Food Lion by 8:00 am. If you are riding the metric, plan on a departure time of between 8:55 and 9:30. We’ll try to arrange to get the metric riders off as the century riders leave Taneytown to encourage more of us to ride together.

Keep your eyes peeled to the Frederick Pedalers Yahoo Group e-mail for further information.

Thurmont Breakfast Ride

After a successful inuagural run of the Thurmont Breakfast Ride last month, we're running it again in September. Join us for this symbolic recreation of the Woodsboro breakfast ride, except it's not to Woodsboro, and it doesn't start in downtown Frederick. We'll have both D and B/C routes from Lewistown Elementary School up to the Kountry Kitchen in Thurmont where we will enjoy a hearty breakfast before returning to Lewistown.

Please see the September Ride Schedule for more information.

There's A New Kid in Town

You don't have to be a genius to ride a bicycle (or wear a helmet).
