This 10 mile ride will proceed in silent memorial at 10-12 mph through the streets of downtown Frederick obeying all laws and traffic controls to demonstrate cyclist’s intent to safely share the road with other vehicles. This ride coincides with over 180 other Ride of Silence events at locations all across the U.S. sharing the goal of promoting safer streets for all. See the May Ride Schedule for location and time as well as http://www.rideofsilence.com for more information on the evolution of this event. First Adopt-A-Road Pickup of 2006 Come out and get trashed with the Frederick Pedalers on Saturday May 13th as we do our part to keep FredCo beautiful by picking up trash along Bethel Road between Opossumtown Pike and Mountaindale Road. It's always a fun time and Bill 'Dough Boy' Smith usually brings yummy bagels from Panera.Meet us around 8:00 am at the Bethel E.L. Church at the corner of Opossumtown Pike and Mountaindale Road. Long pants, a long sleve shirt, sturdy shoes and work gloves are recommended. So head on down there and meet the bunch of us as we cycle to work. In the past the bike shops have had a presence there; sometimes we’ll see giveaways; we expect that there’ll be some breakfast-type foods as well. See the press release at http://www.cityoffrederick.com/PublicInfo/PressReleases/2006/march/biketowork.pdf and go to http://www.waba.org and register for a free Bike to Work t-shirt. Baker Park Criterium Antietam Velo Club's first race promotion of the season will happen on Saturday May 13 at Baker Park. Frederick police will be handling the majority of course security; however some help is needed (road guards, registration, results tabulation and prize payout). Those helping with registration should plan on arriving no later then 8:30 am. Registration opens at 9:15. The biggest rush occurs early in the day, so that is the time we need the most people to help with registration. Those interested in road guarding should arrive by 9:45 for the morning shift and 12:30 pm for the afternoon shift. The first race starts at 10:15. The final race of the day should end by 5:00pm. Please contact Tim Lung at tlung@washco-md.net if you can help out, what you would like to do, and the times that you would be available. Baker Park is a very nice setting. It should be an enjoyable day. Info on the race can be found at http://www.bikecvcc.com/avc. Bike & Gear Swaps The Bicycle Place is once again hosting the venerable WABA bike swaps at their Silver Spring location on May 13, June 17 and September 9.See the WABA web site for more information Funny Foto of the Month
